Does couples therapy work?

The truth is that couples therapy stresses out the therapist too. They decided that it is time for practitioners to address their feelings and vent. Couples therapy is very challenging it isn’t easy to deal with. You don’t want a therapist to be sensitive, calm, empathic, and accepting. You want someone that is going to get in there and mix it up with the client. It is hard to deal with two strong individuals that are colliding together. At first husbands and wives wouldn’t go to therapy together. Then in the late 60’s and 70’s divorce rates were raising and they started seeing them in pairs. When the therapist saw the couple together this became known as conjoint therapy. The goal of marriage therapy wasn’t to maintain the relationship but to help them take charge of themselves. Who and what is to be taken charge of is still unknown. Some types of couples therapy is known to work better than others. They are not study how people change. None of this is going to resolve the real underlying problem.

Get used to living with Mom and Dad

There is a growing trend of more adults living with their parents. They are described as lazy overgrown babies. A few reasons why more and more adults are living at home is because, it is hard for new workers to get into the working field and also the cost of housing that is climbing. It isn’t because the generation is lazy it is because of a series of unfortunate overlapping trends. This causes a disadvantage for them not being able to become independent like their parents were able to do. Since it is hard for young people to get jobs it just keeps getting harder because more job are requiring more schooling. The schooling that you need for a decent job is getting longer and more expensive. Many young people live at home because they need experience for career they want to go into, but they have to interne somewhere to get the experience. When you are interning you don’t get paid which means you can’t move out if you’re not making money to pay your bills. Lower class people have always had to have everyone working to keep the house hold afloat. People are able to own house because of the GI bill that was passes.

It takes a Neighborhood

This article is about New Orleans, and hurricane Katrina. Because of the hurricane they have had to demolish damaged houses and abandon neighborhoods. The article also says that they wanted to shrink the city by using Planned Shrinkage.  Residents have returned and new residents have joined New Orleans. Neighborhoods would take things into their own hands and the government finally helped with additional resources. The article also talks about shotgun houses. The house is like a hall way that goes from the front door to the back door. The house so straight enough that if you fired a shot gun it would go right through, that is how it got its name.  What the inside looked like would vary from house to house. Many locals took matters into their own hands and with the help from thousands of volunteers they made houses that were damaged livable again. They also fixed up many other things like playgrounds, parks, schools, and churches. Little of this made it to the national media even though it has been five years since Hurricane Katrina and Rita.
